Despite having to change their wedding date three times, Chloe & Gavin were determined to make their big day happen in 2020. We spoke to the newlyweds about their beautiful intimate wedding with us back in October…

Where did you meet?
We met through mutual friends 7 years ago on a night out in Swansea. After a year of friendship we started dating and got engaged 5 weeks later. Lots of people thought we were mad for getting engaged so quickly, but when you know, you know!

Did you have have a theme? Colour scheme?
Our colour scheme was blues and greys. We didn’t have a theme as such, we mostly just chose rustic decorations, lots of natural flowers, fairy lights and candles that would compliment the beautiful Avalon suite and gardens of the King Arthur. More than anything else, we wanted our day to be fun and relaxed and the theme and decorations to reflect that.

When did you decide to go ahead with the wedding rather than postpone for a second time?
After being engaged for 6 years and planning our wedding for 2 years, the first postponement back in April 2020 was incredibly upsetting. When we thought we would have to postpone it again in October, we realised just how much we didn’t want to wait any longer, but thought we’d have no choice. We were incredibly lucky that Rhian and the other wedding coordinators were amazing and offered for us to bring the wedding forward with less than 3 days notice. They, along with our amazing suppliers, really pulled out all of the stops to make sure our wedding could still go ahead before the firebreak lockdown, and that the day was as magical as we had imagined.

How was it organising a wedding during a global pandemic?

Organising our wedding during a global pandemic was incredibly difficult. We went through a lot of heartache and uncertainty, especially in the first few weeks. But we had the support of our amazing family, friends and suppliers to help us through it.
We do count ourselves very lucky in spite of everything though. Despite having three different wedding dates and having to rearrange the entire day in such short notice, we still got to have our magical day in 2020, surrounded by the closet people in our lives. All of our suppliers could still be there as we’d hoped and not to have lost any money through postponements. We know a lot of couples haven’t been as
fortunate and we are very grateful.

What was your most memorable moment of the day?
The most memorable moment of the day was getting to say our vows in front of our family. After so much time apart in 2020, being able to bring 25 of our closest family and friends together for such a big moment in our lives was very special. And the moment we finally were announced as Mr & Mrs Taylor!

What was on the menu?

We had winter vegetable soup and stuffed mushrooms for starters, roast beef, roast chicken and mushroom strudel for main course, and a trio of chocolate desserts and apple & blackberry tart for dessert. The food was incredible and all of our guests said how much they enjoyed it!

Why the King Arthur?

Gavin had attended a wedding reception at the King Arthur before, so it was one of the venues on our shortlist when we started planning our wedding. After attending an open day at the King Arthur, we both fell in love with it straight away and knew it was the perfect venue for us. It has also become one of our favourite places to go for family meals over the past few years, so it’s lovely to make it an even more special place to visit.

Tell us about your suppliers?
We couldn’t have asked for better group of suppliers to help us create the perfect day, and be so helpful and supportive through all of the changes. Steph Barry did an amazing job photographing our day and captured so many precious moments. We’re so thankful to have such beautiful photos to treasure! Rebecca from Garden of Eden Flowers created the most beautiful bouquets and centrepieces to bring our vision to life; especially as we have no idea what we were talking about when discussing flowers! Michelle from Scrum Diddly was able to take so many different ideas and bring them together into one beautiful wedding cake, that exceeded our expectations. And Julie Holmes Makeup was incredible on the morning of the wedding to keep everything relaxed whilst getting ready and made sure Chloe, her bridesmaid and mum were feeling their best before walking down the aisle. And lastly, the lovely ladies at Perfection Bridal and the team at Formal Hire who helped us pick the perfect dress and suits!
The speeches were brilliant.. and the food!! Everyone kept pulling us aside to comment on the food! From the canapes (my favourite was the cockles and laverbread), the pork dinner all the way to the evening food which we selected Something Different with fish & chips

What advice would you give to other couples who have to change their wedding plans because of Covid-19?
The best advice we could give to anyone having to change their wedding plans is follow your gut and make the best decision for yourselves! Our wedding day certainly wasn’t how we originally planned it, and we missed having all of our family and friends with us to celebrate. However, no matter, what your wedding is always going to be a magical day, and we would do it all again in a heartbeat!

“As much as I miss full day weddings with all the party and celebration, there is a certain beauty to the new ‘pandemic weddings’ I’ve been fortunate enough to capture over the last 6 months. With all of the most important parts of the day still being documented, I’ve found that couples are a lot more relaxed and less rushed which gives us even more time for beautiful formal photos – and even the chance to get creative! It’s been a bit of a learning curve making sure I’m up to date with current regulations, what I am and am not able to do, and dancing around to keep distance from guests and staff, however it’s all been worthwhile to still document such beautiful wedding days. “
